Daily Itinerary
1. Day Arrival in Luang Prabang (-)
Welcome to Luang Prabang, the gilded, spiritual soul of Laos, nestled at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. Upon your arrival, the heavy, sweet tropical air and the distant chime of temple bells immediately set a tranquil tone. Your local guide and driver will transfer you to your hotel to wash off the journey. As twilight paints the sky in shades of bruised purple and gold, step out into the balmy evening to experience the vibrant Night Market. The main thoroughfare transforms into a glowing corridor of red and blue paper lanterns illuminating hand-woven silk textiles, intricate silverwork, and the aromatic smoke of street-side grills—a low-key, sensory introduction to the gentle rhythms of Lao life.
Overnight: Hotel in Luang Prabang
2. Day Saffron Robes, Heritage Lanes & Petanque (B/L)
Rise in the cool, misty pre-dawn to witness Tak Baat. In the soft morning twilight, a silent, reverent procession of saffron-robed monks glides barefoot through the streets to collect their daily alms of sticky rice. It is a profoundly moving, centuries-old ritual. Afterward, let your senses awaken in the Morning Market, a chaotic, colorful labyrinth where locals barter over wild jungle herbs, honeycomb, and fresh Mekong river fish. After a hearty breakfast, mount bicycles to explore the quiet, bougainvillea-draped lanes of this UNESCO World Heritage town. You’ll marvel at the sweeping, multi-tiered roofs of Wat Xieng Thong and wander the halls of the Royal Palace. Following a restorative bowl of traditional noodle soup, cross the rickety old French Bridge. Spend your late afternoon engaging in a spirited, laughter-filled game of pétanque (boules) with the locals, clinking frosted glasses of BeerLao as the sun sets. Cap off the night with a mesmerizing performance of ancient folklore at the International Opera of Luang Prabang.
Overnight: Hotel in Luang Prabang
3. Day FairTrek Adventure: The Mock Mhoo Trail & Khmu Farmstay (B/L/D)
Today, we leave the comforts of town behind for the raw beauty of the mountains, stepping into the heart of our FairTrek program. A short drive brings us to Tad Thong Waterfall, the trailhead of a historic, steep jungle lifeline. As we hike upward, the air grows cooler under a thick emerald canopy. We pass through Ban Houay Thong, where Hmong and Khmu communities carve a life from the high plateau. Our path traces the ridgeline to Mock Mhoo, a hauntingly beautiful ghost village abandoned decades ago and now being slowly reclaimed by the jungle. After a trailside lunch, we push through dense, protected rainforest, emerging occasionally to breathtaking, dizzying views of the valleys below. As evening approaches, we descend into a remote Khmu village to our FairTrek farmstay. There is no electricity or Wi-Fi here—just the glow of firelight, the smell of woodsmoke, a spectacular canopy of stars, and the warmth of a community that benefits directly from your visit. Share a home-cooked meal and fall asleep to the symphony of the jungle.
Note on Accommodations: The farmstay provides authentic, basic amenities, including a Western-style toilet, a traditional bucket shower, and limited solar lighting. There is no electricity for charging phones or devices.
Trekking: 10km | 5-8 hrs | Medium-Difficult

4. Day Nam Khan Kayaking & Tad Sae Waterfalls (B/L)
Wake to the roosters greeting the sun rising and the sight of mountain mist clinging to the jungle peaks. After a rustic farmhouse breakfast, we embark on a gentle morning descent toward Ban Houy Thao. Here, you’ll spend time sitting with the villagers, gaining a deep, unvarnished insight into their traditions, beliefs and subsistence farming lifestyle. Reaching the muddy banks of the Nam Khan River, we trade our trekking boots for paddles. Let the rhythmic current carry your kayak downstream, slicing through quiet waters shadowed by towering limestone bluffs. We’ll pull ashore on a secluded sandy bank for a fresh picnic lunch. Between July and February, we’ll paddle onward to Tad Sae Waterfall, where you can plunge into tiered, icy-blue limestone pools hidden beneath a leafy canopy. A final stretch of kayaking brings us to Ban Xieng Lom, where our vehicle waits to whisk you back to Luang Prabang for a desperately awaited hot shower.

5. Day High-Speed Rail to Nam Pien Yorla Pa (B)
Experience the startling contrast of modern infrastructure slicing through ancient topography. After breakfast, you’ll board the sleek Lao-China Railway for a swift, incredibly scenic journey south toward Vientiane. Outside your window, a cinematic reel of jagged karst spikes, emerald rice paddies, and rural stilt houses flashes by. Upon arrival, a private minivan escorts you away from the city and deep into a pristine forested valley to Nam Pien Yorla Pa, an isolated eco-sanctuary. The afternoon is a dedicated pause for your trekking legs. Breathe in the crisp, unpolluted mountain air as you wander across swaying suspension bridges, swim in natural spring pools, or simply read on your veranda, surrounded by the hum of cicadas. With zero light pollution, the night sky here is an absolute theater of stars.
Overnight: at Nam Pien Yorla Pa
6. Day Karst Highway to Spring River (B/L)
We hit the road heading south into Khammouane Province, a dramatic, prehistoric landscape where tooth-like limestone mountains erupt vertically from the flat green earth. We stop at The Rock Viewpoint, the breathtaking gateway to the Phou Hin Poun National Protected Area. For thrill-seekers, an optional canopy circuit offers the chance to zipline high above a surreal, razor-sharp karst forest. If you prefer Terra Firma, sip a cup of robust Lao coffee on the panoramic viewing deck, letting the sheer scale of the landscape wash over you. In the afternoon, we delve deeper into the valley, arriving at the idyllic Spring River Resort perched on the edge of the Nam Hinboun River. Watch the water turn gold and crimson at sunset, and spend the evening swapping stories around a crackling riverside bonfire.
Overnight: at Spring River Resort
7. Day Subterranean Odyssey: Kong Lor Cave (B/L)
Step directly from the resort’s wooden pier into a traditional motorized longtail boat. We motor upstream against the current, waving to locals casting fishing nets, until we reach the gaping, ominous maw of Kong Lor Cave. Strapping on powerful headlamps, we transfer to smaller craft and plunge headlong into the abyss. For 7.5 kilometers, your expert boatman navigates an invisible, winding underground river that has carved its way straight through the heart of the mountain. Your beam of light will occasionally catch massive caverns soaring 100 meters high, illuminating colossal, ghostly limestone stalactites. Emerging on the far side of the mountain into a blindingly green, hidden valley feels like stepping into a lost world. After light refreshments, we make the return journey through the dark. The afternoon is yours to relax by the river or hike to the wild, untouched Skull Cave nearby.
Overnight: at Spring River Resort
8. Day The Thakhek Loop to Xe Bang Fai (B/L)
Today we conquer a stretch of the legendary Thakhek Loop, a road trip celebrated by adventurers worldwide. We begin with a choice: climb the illuminated depths of Dragon Cave to a stunning panoramic viewpoint, or bathe in the Cool Pool, a natural spring of impossibly clear turquoise water at the foot of a limestone cliff. The road then snakes upward, navigating the dramatic switchbacks of the Nakai Plateau. We stop for lunch at Phosy Thalang, overlooking the vast Nam Theun reservoir, where the skeletal remains of a drowned forest jut eerily from the glassy water. Descending from the plateau, the road turns to red dust as we drive through remote villages toward Ban Nong Ping, the wild gateway to Hin Nam No National Park. Check into your rustic bungalow and listen to the sounds of the deep jungle.
Overnight: Bungalows at Xe Bang Fai Cave
9. Day Xe Bang Fai River Cave & Jungle Trek (B/L/D)
Prepare for an expedition into one of Southeast Asia’s ultimate frontiers. We begin with a sweaty, rewarding 1.5-hour morning hike through dense foliage to a dramatic ledge overlooking the cascading Tad Xieng Lue Waterfall. But the true marvel lies ahead: Xe Bang Fai Cave. Largely hidden from the outside world until a 2008 National Geographic expedition, this is one of the largest active river cave passages on the planet. We enter via a short boat ride before disembarking to explore the colossal caverns on foot. You will feel remarkably small standing beside massive, ancient flowstone draperies and bizarre stone sculptures carved by eons of dripping water. We return to the sunlight at a large resurgence pool, a protected fish conservation zone. Celebrate the day’s discoveries with a fantastic riverside BBQ dinner as the jungle transitions to night.
Overnight: Bungalows at Xe Bang Fai Cave
10. Day Sacred Manuscripts & Savannakhet Heritage (B/L)
We leave the deep jungle behind, driving 200 kilometers across the rural heartland to a remarkable piece of preserved history: the Hotay Pidok Library. Raised on wooden stilts over a tranquil lotus pond to protect against termites, this beautifully restored pavilion houses over 4,000 delicate, centuries-old palm-leaf manuscripts. It is a fragile, tangible archive of Buddhist teachings recorded in ancient Lao, Pali, and Burmese scripts. From here, we drive to Savannakhet, a sleepy Mekong port town suspended in time. Wander wide boulevards lined with crumbling, atmospheric French-colonial villas sporting faded yellow plaster and wooden shutters. As evening approaches, stroll the riverbank promenade. Watch the sun dip below the Thai border across the water before diving into the bustling night market to feast on the town’s legendary specialty, Ping Gai (smoky, succulent grilled chicken).
Overnight: Guesthouse in Savannakhet
11. Day Ascending the Volcanic Bolaven Plateau (B/L)
Our journey pushes further south, leaving the sticky heat of the tropical plains as our vehicle climbs the winding roads of the Bolaven Plateau. This elevated region, born from an ancient collapsed volcano, is blessed with incredibly fertile soil, cascading waterways, and a noticeably cooler, refreshing microclimate. By mid-afternoon, we arrive at the Tad Lo area, a stunning trifecta of waterfalls—Tad Hang, Tad Lo, and Tad Suong. Take the afternoon to stretch your legs, letting the mist of the falls cool your skin. Wander along dirt paths into the neighboring villages of the Alak and Nge ethnic minorities, observing their unique stilted homes and watching local children splash joyfully in the shallows of the river.
Overnight: at Tad Lo Lodge
12. Day Vintage Jeeps, Secret Falls & Mystic Mountain Coffee (B/L/D)
Today is a thrilling, caffeine-fueled safari. We drive to Paksong, the undisputed coffee capital of Laos, where we are greeted by Mr. Khamsone, a charismatic local guide and master coffee roaster. Climb aboard his vintage, open-top 4×4 military jeep and hold on as we roar down rutted dirt tracks. We bounce past vibrant fields of ginger and cabbage, stopping to cool off at the hidden Tad Moun Cascade. Leaving the jeeps, we trek through lush, sprawling coffee plantations to reach the Mystic Mountain Farm. After a feast of local specialties, Mr. Khamsone leads an immersive masterclass in his organic fields. You’ll learn to identify, pick, hull, and manually roast Arabica beans over an open wood fire—the aroma is absolutely intoxicating. In the late afternoon, we hike to the summit of Phou Katouk Mountain, watching the sun cast long shadows over the plateau. Return to the homestay for a communal, family-style dinner.
Overnight: at Mystic Mountain Coffee Homestay
13. Day Highland Villages, Bamboo Cascades & Dan Xinxai (B/L)
Start the morning wrapped in a blanket, sipping the freshest cup of coffee you will ever taste as the mountain mist clears. Jumping back into our rugged 4×4 jeeps, we tackle muddy backroads to visit deeply remote Laven and Suay ethnic minority villages. You’ll witness intricate, generations-old bamboo weaving techniques and learn about the distinct linguistic and architectural traditions of these highland people. By late morning, we arrive at the spectacular Bamboo Waterfall, a hidden oasis where you can swim in icy, crystal-clear water and enjoy a picnic surrounded by wild fruit trees. Revitalized, we embark on a scenic one-hour trek across Dan Xinxai, a stark, striking plateau of volcanic rock that provides incredible, otherworldly photo opportunities. We return to our main vehicle in the afternoon for a short, comfortable transfer to our luxury resort to wash off the dust of the plateau.
Overnight: at Sabaidee Valley Resort
14. Day Time to Say Sok Dee (B)
Wake up slowly and savor a final, leisurely morning breathing in the cool air of the southern highlands. Reflect on the sheer scale of the landscapes and the warmth of the communities you’ve encountered. Depending on your flight schedule, your driver will transfer you down to Pakse Airport for your onward journey. Sok Dee—we wish you a safe and beautiful journey onward!
(Alternative transfers to the Thai border or Ubon Rachathanee available upon request)
Optional Extension: The Khmer Legacy
14. Day Wat Phou Heritage & The Watery World of the 4,000 Islands (B/L)
Instead of flying home, your adventure pushes further south. We leave the plateau and ascend the steps of Wat Phousalao, standing beneath a massive golden Buddha gazing out over the vast Mekong plain. Next, we step back in time at Wat Phou. Predating Angkor Wat, this mystical UNESCO World Heritage site clings to the slopes of the sacred Lingaparvata Mountain. Walk past crumbling barays (reservoirs) and ascend ancient stone staircases shaded by fragrant frangipani trees. In the afternoon, we drive to the southernmost tip of Laos to enter Si Phan Don—the 4,000 Islands—settling in on the tranquil shores of Don Khong.
Overnight: on Don Khong Island
15. Day Cruising the Archipelago & The Roar of Li Phi Falls (B/L)
Board a longtail boat to navigate the sprawling, watery labyrinth of Si Phan Don, where the mighty Mekong swells to a massive 12 kilometers wide, fracturing into countless islets and sandbars. As we drift downstream, a low rumble grows into a deafening roar: the Li Phi Falls (Somphamit). Watch in awe as millions of gallons of water churn violently through jagged rock chutes, creating a natural fortress wall between Laos and Cambodia. We will step ashore to explore the sleepy island of Don Khone, discovering a rusted French locomotive and a concrete railway bridge—stubborn relics of a colonial attempt to bypass these impassable rapids. Enjoy a slow, sultry evening on the island.
Overnight: on Don Khone Island
16. Day Khone Phapheng, The Border Crossing & The Lost Pyramid of Koh Ker (B/L)
Returning to the mainland, we confront the absolute raw power of Khone Phapheng, Southeast Asia’s largest waterfall by volume. After bidding a fond farewell to your Lao guide, we cross the remote land border into the Kingdom of Cambodia. Meeting your new guide, we immediately plunge into the northern Cambodian jungle to seek out Koh Ker. Briefly the capital of the Khmer Empire in the 10th century, this UNESCO site was swallowed by the jungle for centuries. Its centerpiece, Prasat Thom, is a towering 30-meter, seven-tiered stone pyramid that looks astonishingly Mesoamerican. Climb to its summit to gaze over an endless ocean of green canopy before driving onward to the bustling, vibrant hub of Siem Reap.
Overnight: Hotel in Siem Reap
17. Day Bicycles & The Hidden Eastern Angkor Temples (B/L)
To truly appreciate the scale of the Khmer Empire, we swap our van for bicycles, escaping the tour bus crowds. Riding 30-40 kilometers along flat, dappled-light jungle tracks, we explore the quieter, deeply atmospheric outer temples. We explore Pre Rup, a mountain temple of warm, glowing red brick, and wheel north to Neak Poan, an ancient healing shrine situated on a serene island. Next, we delve into the sprawling, chaotic maze of Preah Khan (“The Sacred Sword”), an ancient university where giant tree roots wrestle with crumbling stone corridors. As the heat of the day breaks, we hike up Phnom Bakheng to watch the sunset paint the distant, iconic towers of Angkor Wat in shades of peach and gold.
Overnight: Hotel in Siem Reap
18. Day The Grand Masterpieces & The Phare Circus (B/L)
We rise well before dawn to secure our spot in front of Angkor Wat’s reflecting pools. Watching the sun climb behind the temple’s five perfect lotus towers is a true bucket-list moment. After breakfast, your expert guide will decode the endless galleries of intricate bas-reliefs detailing bloody battles and Hindu epics. We move on to Ta Prohm, the legendary “Tomb Raider” temple, intentionally left in the grip of the jungle, where colossal silk-cotton trees strangle ancient doorways. We conclude our historical deep-dive at the Bayon Temple, standing under the gaze of its 216 massive, enigmatic smiling stone faces. On your final evening, celebrate the vibrant, modern spirit of Cambodia at the Phare Circus. This breathtaking, high-energy show of acrobatics, live music, and theater supports vulnerable youth, providing a joyous and poignant end to your Indochina odyssey.
Overnight: Hotel in Siem Reap
19. Day Departure from Siem Reap (B)
Enjoy a final, relaxed breakfast at your hotel. Spend your morning at leisure—perhaps hunting for a final souvenir in the bustling Old Market or taking a quiet stroll along the Siem Reap River—before your private driver escorts you to Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) for your journey home.
